I know this sounds funny but let me tell you how this started.

Hello, my name is Cosmo Easterly, I’m a retired Hair stylist with over 45 years of experience, which means I’ve talked to hundreds of people of all sorts with different opinions and ideas.

This is how it started, one of many clients was sitting in the chair and we always had interesting talks with this question she asks: are you a crumpler or a folder?

Yes, this took me back asking What, she explained her question about toilet paper, and I said I’m a folder.

Her reply was- great that’s good because I would want a folder to be doing my hair. This was a puzzling moment because I didn’t understand the meaning of which one I was.

A folder has the mind set to fold and be precise as a crumpler has the mind set of random.

Think about this for a moment as you contemplate your choice of toilet paper technique?

But sometimes it depends on the ply of the paper in hand and that’s no joke as this was brought to our attention by Ryan my nephew.

Back to fix your shit

We talked about life choices along with issues we had or what we thought about other’s issues. It’s easy to see others’ problems because we don’t take the time to look at our own or we refuse to think we have issues, lol.

Over the years we have continued to talk, with the statement coming from Uncle Fix your shit!

We begin to say things like you need to fix your shit if everyone around you says the same thing basically, fix your shit.

This has grown into many sayings over the years, if you’re the one person at the gathering telling folks where to sit and rearranging all the chairs, probably need to fix your shit. If you can’t understand another’s opinion or at least listen without the defensive response, you probably need to fix your shit!

If you don’t have love for others and look for a positive thing in them, well you probably need to fix your shit!

You get the point of where this is heading and I would ask you along with myself to explore your Toilet paper technique and look to see if we can fix our shit by being a bit kinder and less reactive to people while responding with love, looking for beautiful things even in the darkest of times.

This is on the blog fix your shit and I wanted to explain that I’m telling these stories so you understand what I’ve had to learn and how I proceeded to start the process of fixing my shit and continue on this path for life as a choice .

My Beginnings as a young lad that took me down a path which led me to Fixing My Shit.

As I share these memories its only to show you where I’ve come from and the things I used or did to fix my shit.

As a child I would dress up and preform as many children do, the difference in childhood for us is the support from our parents to be creative and explore our inner self and expressions. My father was a hard man that had no understanding of this he only understood do your chores. We as a family delivered newspapers getting up at 2:00 am and kids would sit in back sit and roll the papers put them up front to be thrown as we raced around Naples in the early morning hours. You could hear the lions roar coming from Jungle Larry’s in the quite calm of the night, kind of cool when you think about it.

This I’m sure helped my imagination flourish because I was afraid of the dark, taking the trash out was terrifying but they could not understand that.

Entering school after finishing the daily routes was around 7:30 and you’re out at around 3:00 then home for chores then clean up shower eat dinner do dishes then off to bed was the daily routine.

My play time was mostly in my head or fishing with my father as he yelled at me because you tangled the line or got it caught in the mangroves, fun right?

The older I got the more yelling and what I’m going to call mental and physical abuse and not go into detail because forgiveness is necessary to move on in life and try to overcome this as a child. This is the first part of fixing your shit!

The first time I ran away was at 13-14 and headed to the Keys where my older brother was, he called the parents and let them know where I was and that he would bring me back in a week or so. This is not a thing to do! Let me repeat this is not a thing to do!

He was a big man and at one point picked dad up over his head and said that’s the last time to abuse him. Well, the middle brother left home and now it’s time for me to do all the chores which of course cannot be completed by one person. The last thing was a 25-foot wooden boat that needed to be sanded and painted, he gave me 3 days, what I said. He said if you work and not goof off you will have it done or else!!!!!!

Of course, no way, and as I stated Goofing off and trying to be the creative kid that was in me never had the chance to flourish and grow.

3 days gone by, boat not finished and here comes the punishment and oh my what a beating, I had one of these before not sure why, but they had a beach party and I was not allowed to go so after they had been gone for a while I put on cutoffs and walked down to where they are.

The gasp as they saw me caused a commotion and I was sent back home for some more discipline for my actions.

That night after the boat not being completed and my discipline was the departure of my life at home and off I went to California hitch hiking, 3 days about I ended in San Diego in balboa park.

Hippies acting out plays laughter in the air was a pleasant welcome to me and the bushes that I slept in was comforting. You know how a bird makes a nest, that’s the bed I made in the bushes.

Funny story about my daughter when we traveled to San Diego we went to the park so I could show her the bushes and as I walked around I couldn’t find the bushes, she goes to a sign in the park and reads they have removed the bushes to stop the people from living in the park and probably didn’t say that and as our time reflects now homeless folks can’t camp on public property but no alternative and what do young kids and adults do?

After a couple weeks I met a kid who Lived in that area and he took me to meet his mom, after a few questions she said I could sleep in a tent in the back yard. The conversations with her where do your parents know where you’re at? of course not and she would say please call them.

At the time I had started cleaning a donut shop at 3 in the morning, 4$ a day and all the donuts a milk I wanted. The owner knew that I was out of sorts and probably thought this to be short lived but it continued for some time. Authers Fish and chips on Wednesday had all you can eat for less than 4$,

Yes, I was there every Wednesday enjoying getting stuffed.

The mom kept asking if I had contacted my parents, no I told her, One day after a month or more pasted The son and I went to a phone booth and I had him call, Dad answered the phone he asked for mom and when she answered I spoked to her, She said thanks for calling and she would never let me get that close to her aging to hurt her that bad again, devastated yet again but understood how she felt.

I had money in my bank account and ask that they send some for a bus ticket home.

Wished many times I could remember the MOMS name that rescued me and got me to contact the parents, an angel of many in my life.

Had an apartment when I got back, and my journey as young lad begins basically without adult supervision. I had to move to Gorgia to live with my aunt and uncle because as an unattended

16-year-old I found myself answering the door on the apartment blowing smoke from a joint I had just fired up into the faces of Mother and Father, yeah not a good thing. You have got 2 choices, go to jail or go live with your aunt! Taking another puff, I replied, “looks like I’m living with my aunt.

The Gorgia period

My aunt and uncle were very kind and soft with no harsh discipline, only request of actions and some additional chores.

I begin to adapt to the new school, make friends and settle in.

Back in band class and now a drama class, yeah!!!

Almost didn’t graduate but the last efforts I made it! Yes “luck” which is Labor under controlled knowledge!

More on this later, now I’m through high school and off to start the life journey as a hairdresser.

Mom had a friend that was a hairdresser and suggested I spend a day in the salon, I had helped Mom, and her sisters roll perms, and other hair related things as well as in the kitchen cooking, setting the table and lots of washing dishes.

After the salon day I went to Fort Myers Beauty collage to check it out, yeah me and 32 girls sounded like I had found my Place with new hopes, as school progressed it seemed easy and very logical how it worked. As we came close to graduation I took my test for manicures, pedicures and facials passed and took a Job at J-Mar-E in Naples Fl and started my apprenticeship under a couple of stylists who taught me how to set hair, wash and rinse. This would develop many skills I used and developed cutting techniques and tools along with many perm wraps using the concept of setting hair. Which ultimately turned into a first book about techniques. Printed by David Matchett the printing mega and off I went trying to promote my ideas and concepts.

Creativity became my life! The book “handbook to higher consciousness” by Ken Keys Jr started me on a path of healing and changing the thought process, no one makes you mad you choose to be mad, and you are in control of now what I call “Fix Your Shit” with new thoughts and focus on being better today than yesterday.

I’ve journaled after finishing that book and writing Ideas as I found that little kid hidden way in the depts of my soul.

Hairdresser starts

As I begin in Naples Fl at the salon then move to Gainesville Fl working at a deli next to salon building my career, life is good, and many things develop quickly. I find hair to be quite easy and fun with concepts and angles reviling themselves to me as I try new things and learn the value of my mannequin’s.

This is the “labor under controlled knowledge” luck comes in the number of hours I spent working on concepts and Ideas took me to wee hours of the night with overwhelming enthusiasm.

I continued this my entire career which led to many developments of techniques and tools that took me to another journey in the industry.

Working for a product company was very educational in many ways like the chemical side and the development of products. I have had the opportunity to be employed by many of these companies and eventually develop my own product line. Many shows later under my belt I realized I had fixed part of my shit, focusing on something good you love and let the kid come out and play is a big part of over coming the patterns you may have developed along the path of life.

Let me ask you a question: Have you seen a pattern in your life, has the same thing happened in a relationship, do you continue to have the same problems at a job?

Time to fix your shit!

We get into a pattern where everyone else is to blame when its time for you to look into the mirror of your life. Remember “Handbook to higher consciousness”, no one can make you angry you choose to react with emotions that harm you and your health, stress is the killer, laughter is the healer!

Let’s find the happy parts of your life and reflect on them, not the negative!

If you struggle to find these points in your life, start to journal taking the time to reflect and dig deep for happy, fun, exciting times where you laughed about something along with smiles and times of love and expression of you not what someone depicted you as.

The world says they want you happy but as you gain in your freedom to be happy there is always that one person that has a different opinion with comments that follow, get away from them they are not supporters they disable the growth in which you believe and love which help you fix your shit.

As you develop in yourself love it becomes easier to let it go without it having an impact on your happiness and choices, and that’s the goal!

I’ve had many people along my path that showed up when it was their time to be there, whether to encourage or to point out a situation in the event of life it’s only for a moment not a lifetime and that takes a lifetime to learn and understand. There are folks that can be there for life, don’t fret let life happen, don’t try to control it let it be!

Chris Rickerson, a product salesperson, owned a company that had perms, products and did shows and I had the chance to join their team and start my journey in the education part of the industry.

What a blast to finally get to explain my theories and concepts.

The setting of hair learned back in Naples now comes into focus as I started developing my Permanent wave techniques. The cloud perm was one of my favorites because I could use different size rods to give different size curl patterns that staked on each other like clouds, awesome.

Fix your shit

Life has its way of pushing you in the direction it intends for you to go, like job changes, relationships changes, moving where you habitat, all these things are choices and decisions we make based on our emotions, feelings and emotional maturity.

I’ve had many choices that due to my lack of emotional maturity have caused choices to lead me away from my intended path of working with and continued growth with companies and company.

After many changes on my path, I’ve discovered this is all part of the journey and life will send you what you need and take away what you don’t need. No need to beat yourself up, it’s part of fixing your shit.

Lets take a moment to reflect on the happy side of the street?

Staying positive is a challenge until you have worked on changing your mind set.

How do you do that?

It takes some time and focus to develop a happy positive thought process.

Start by not responding to negative people or comments, sounds easy but it’s a job worth working on for yourself!

After you stop that try stopping repeating what you think has been done to you, or what someone did to effect you’re life?

Remember that you choose to react, except, listen, or even let it sink into your subconscious.

The subconscious brain will be part of the problems we carry along our path, Lets fill it with love thoughts of ourselves not self-centered but self-love and positive thoughts of ourselves.

Have you ever had the thought, I’m not good enough?

Why ME?

Life isn’t fair.

Well the human in us all have these. As a child you’re told to walk and talk right!

As soon as you’re walking and talking they tell you to sit down and shut up!

I wonder where our problems start.

I feel this is enough thought process for now and as we keep adding to,
